Dr. Igal Kronhaus has joined our department as Assistant Professor. Igal holds a B.A. degree (cum laude) in Physics (2007), M.Sc. (2009) and Ph.D. (2012) degrees in Aerospace Engineering, all from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. He received the Gutwirt and Timnat prizes during his Ph.D. studies, and a Minerva fellowship (Max Planck Society) for his postdoctoral research. In the past two years he has been a post-Doctoral Research Fellow in Wuerzburg University, Wuerzburg, Germany (2012 – 2013) and in the Bundeswehr University, Munich, Germany (2013 – 2014). Dr. Kronhaus' research involves the development of innovative low-power electric-propulsion thrusters for nano-satellites and smaller platforms (i.e. CubeSats). His primary interest is in understanding the ionization and acceleration processes in these highly non-equilibrium plasma sources. In addition to electric propulsion, his work involves the study of plasma-gas interaction in elevated pressure environments as found in micro-discharges and aeronautical flows. In his work Igal utilizes advanced plasma diagnostics on experimental models as well as large scale numerical modeling of plasmas.
