John Brandenburg earned his BA in Physics from Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Oregon, where he first began building the foundation for a career that would blend theory, experimentation, and visionary engineering. He continued his studies at the University of California, Davis, where he received an MS in Applied Science, before pursuing doctoral research in Theoretical Plasma Physics at the UC Davis extension campus at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, California. His Ph.D. thesis, A Theoretical Model of a Reversed Field Ion Layer Made of Monoenergetic Ions, focused on the magnetic confinement of plasmas for controlled nuclear fusion—a subject that remains one of the great frontiers of modern physics and energy research.
