This NASA technical publication reports on experimental observations of d-D nuclear fusion and secondary nuclear processes in electron-screened deuterated metal lattices (ErD3 and TiD2) irradiated with bremsstrahlung photons up to 2.9 MeV. The experiments detected 2.45-MeV fusion neutrons as well as higher-energy 4-MeV and 5-MeV neutrons attributed to boosted fusion and screened Oppenheimer-Phillips stripping reactions. The findings demonstrate that high fuel density combined with lattice, shell, and temporal plasma electron screening enables nuclear reactions without needing high-energy beam acceleration of deuteron projectiles.
