The multi-week radar detection and tracking of anomalous aerial vehicles preceding the 2004 USS Nimitz Carrier Strike Group encounter.

During late October and early November 2004, the SPY-1B radar of the USS Princeton (CG-59) repeatedly tracked anomalous aerial vehicles (AAVs) operating off the southern California coast. Tracked in groups of 10 to 20 over a two-week period, objects were observed descending from ballistic/orbital altitudes (above 80,000 feet) down to 20,000 feet within seconds, loitering for hours, and executing non-ballistic accelerations without observed aerodynamic lift surfaces or thermal exhaust plumes.

Senior Chief Kevin Day: BMD radar detected UAVs in low Earth orbit before they dropped to 80,000+ feet. Objects arrived in groups of 10-20, descended from 80,000+ ft to 20,000 ft, stayed for hours, then returned straight up. Estimated accelerations: 75g to 5000+ g. 'No observed air disturbance, no sonic booms, and no evidence of excessive heat commensurate with even the minimal estimated energies.' Estimated power: 1-9 gigawatts (for 1-ton craft). 'The AAV's capabilities are beyond any known technology.' 2-week loiter at 80,000+ feet is beyond all conventional approaches. No thermal exhaust rules out chemical propulsion. A fusion-powered platform with electromagnetic propulsion would explain: unlimited endurance, no thermal exhaust, extreme acceleration, and 80,000+ ft loiter. AARO FY2023: 'No thermal exhausts are usually detected' for orb/sphere UAPs — the #1 morphology at 25%.
