2.5 HEMP Simulation and Electromagnetic Effects Research
Researchers at Sharif University and Imam Khomeini University have openly reported electromagnetic interference testing and high-altitude electromagnetic pulse (HEMP) simulation research, with documented cooperation with SPND. This research involves simulating the electromagnetic effects of nuclear detonations on electronic systems — a field directly relevant to nuclear weapons effects modeling and electromagnetic warfare.
The HEMP simulation research is significant because it demonstrates that Iran's academic plasma physics community has connections to SPND's defense research agenda.
