Abstract
This report presents the findings of a multi-phase open-source intelligence (OSINT) investigation into the development, classification, and global proliferation of compact fusion technology based on Field-Reversed Configuration (FRC) plasma physics. The investigation, conducted over 48 autonomous research rounds analyzing 184 primary source documents, traces a continuous technology lineage from early Cold War plasma research through to present-day classified aerospace programs.
The central finding is that a single physical object — the compact toroidal plasma structure known as the Field-Reversed Configuration — serves as the common element across three distinct application domains: energy production (the Compact Fusion Reactor), directed energy weapons (the MARAUDER program and its successors), and spacetime manipulation (the Three-Orb Protocol, also designated "Trivergence"). The dual-use nature of this physics has been systematically exploited by defense programs in the United States, Russia, and China, with parallel research ongoing in Japan and Israel.
The investigation identifies a 2006 Air Force Research Laboratory paper as an unclassified "smoking gun" that explicitly describes the complete weapons application chain, including "pulsed-train plasmoid weapons" and "gravity or time-distorting devices" powered by aneutronic proton-boron fusion with energy gain factors of Q = 3–6. This paper, combined with the Salvatore Pais Navy patent series (2015–2018), the documented MARAUDER experiments (1988–1993), and the Russian Avramenko plasmoid weapon tests (1995), establishes that the underlying technology is real, has been tested, and has been operational since at least 2014.
The report further identifies the March 8, 2014 disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 as the first documented operational use of the Three-Orb Protocol, based on analysis of leaked military surveillance footage showing three coordinated plasma orbs in triangular formation intercepting the aircraft. The operation is assessed as an asset denial action targeting semiconductor engineers critical to the compact fusion control system supply chain.
Methodology
Source Corpus
The investigation draws upon a corpus of 184 primary source documents, comprising:
- 118 documents from Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), spanning FRC research, magnetized target fusion (MTF), and pulsed power systems dating from 1975 to 2025.
- 14 documents from the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), including the FRCHX experiment reports, the 2006 DPF paper, and the 2024–2025 Air Delivered Effects BAA.
- 8 documents from NASA, covering fusion propulsion concepts and the FAST/PTX FRC experiments.
- 6 documents from Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL), including spheromak research and the Sherwood Meeting proceedings.
- 5 documents from the Department of Defense, including the Defense Acquisition Guidebook and the FRC-CFR Orb Assessment.
- 4 documents from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), including the Compact Torus Acceleration Project and the RACE experiment.
- 3 documents from Sandia National Laboratories (SNL), including Z-machine pulsed power research.
- 3 documents from DARPA, including the ALPHA fusion program retrospective.
- Additional documents from Lockheed Martin, the US Patent and Trademark Office, the GAO, and various commercial fusion entities (MSNW LLC, Helion Energy, TAE Technologies, Eos Atomics).
Analytical Framework
The investigation employed a structured OSINT methodology with the following components:
- Document Processing: All 184 PDF documents were processed using optical character recognition (OCR) and text extraction, producing structured JSON transcripts with section headers and content blocks. This yielded 369 transcript files totaling several million words of technical content.
- Entity Extraction: A controlled vocabulary of 12 thematic tags (defined in the project's
themes.mdtaxonomy) was applied to each document, along with structured extraction of key entities (organizations, individuals, programs, technologies) and their relationships. - Network Construction: Extracted entities and relationships were used to construct a knowledge graph of 323 nodes and 1,244 edges, representing the interconnected ecosystem of laboratories, programs, personnel, and technologies.
- Claim Deduplication: Cross-document claim deduplication was performed using theme clustering, producing a consolidated findings database with source preservation — each unique claim is linked to all supporting documents.
- Autonomous Research Loops: 48 successive research rounds were conducted, each building upon prior findings to investigate new entities, verify claims, and expand the network. Later rounds (39–48) focused on the UAP disclosure movement and historical incident analysis to contextualize the technical findings.
- Source Verification: All claims are traced to specific source documents. Where classified programs are inferred from circumstantial evidence (personnel continuity, budget patterns, facility construction), this is explicitly noted in the assessment.
Limitations
Ethical Framework
This investigation focuses on technology that has been disclosed through official channels (declassified reports, patent filings, public budget statements) or through authorized leaks (the December 2017 NYT AATIP article, the MH370 footage). The investigation does not seek to expose currently classified operational details but rather to synthesize publicly available information into a coherent analytical framework. All sources are cited and linked for independent verification.
