The Document

Pulse-Power-Based Weaponry is DIRD 2 of the 38 AAWSAP Defense Intelligence Reference Documents. It was commissioned by DIA under contract HHM402-08-R-0211 (AAWSAP) and produced by BAASS (Bigelow Aerospace Advanced Space Studies).

Significance

This DIRD is one of the most directly relevant to the plasma orb weapons assessment because:

1. Pulse Power is the Enabling Technology for Plasma Orbs

• MARAUDER used Shiva Star's 9.5 MJ capacitor bank (pulse power)
• ESTS formation requires high-voltage, high-current pulsed discharge
• Explosive flux compression generators are pulse power devices
• All plasma orb weapons concepts require pulsed power as the energy source

2. The DIA Explicitly Commissioned Weapons Research The DIA RFP identified 12 technical areas including "Armament (RF and DEW)". DIRD 2 on Pulse-Power-Based Weaponry is the direct implementation of this armament area. The DIA was not just studying propulsion or spacetime — it was studying weapons.

3. The Physics Chain Connection Pulse power connects to the broader orb weapons physics chain:
