8. Effects, Plausibility, and the Three-Body Problem
This chapter addresses two critical questions: (1) What could a plasma orb actually do to a target, based on documented physics? and (2) Is the "three-orb coordination" concept — sometimes called "Trivergence" — physically plausible? The assessment is based on documented effects analysis and three-body plasma control analysis.
8.1 Plausible Effects on Targets
Lightning is the closest well-studied analog for plasma interaction with an aircraft. The documented effects of lightning on composite aircraft (CFRP — carbon fiber reinforced polymer) include:
- Joule heating: Resistive heating from current flow through composite structures
- Resin pyrolysis: Thermal decomposition of the polymer matrix at elevated temperatures
- Delamination: Separation of composite layers due to thermal and mechanical stress
- Fiber breakage: Mechanical failure of carbon fibers
- Shock effects: Acoustic and mechanical shock from rapid plasma expansion
Additional documented effects from plasma/EM weapons research:
- Microwave-generated plasma around hypersonic vehicles: Can alter aerodynamics and radar cross-section
- Hypervelocity-impact plasma: Can generate RF/EMP effects
- EMP/HPM upset or burnout: Electronic damage from electromagnetic pulse or high-power microwave
- Induced voltage and arcs: Electrical damage from induced currents
- Shock waves: Mechanical damage from plasma-driven acoustic shock
- Aerodynamic disruption: The Avramenko concept — plasma cloud ahead of target disrupts airflow
- Engine flameout: Possible disruption of jet engine operation through plasma ingestion
The MARAUDER program documented "extreme mechanical and thermal shock" plus x-rays and RF as effects of compact toroid impact. The Avramenko concept describes aerodynamic disruption as the primary kill mechanism — "bumping" the target off trajectory rather than incinerating it.
8.2 What Plasma Orbs Cannot Do
8.3 Biological Effects
The AAWSAP DIRDs include a "Human Effects" technical area, and a "Green DIRD" addresses possible biological effects from close-proximity electromagnetic exposure. The plausible biological effects of close-range plasma orb exposure include:
- RF/HPM radiation effects (tissue heating, neurological effects)
- Thermal burns from plasma contact
- Flash blindness from intense light emission
- Acoustic trauma from shock waves
These effects are consistent with the documented physics but have not been specifically tested for plasma orb configurations.
8.4 The Three-Body Problem
The concept of "Trivergence" — three plasma orbs coordinated in a triangular formation for spacetime manipulation — is the most speculative element of the plasma orb weapons narrative. The physics assessment is unequivocal:
The evidence for this assessment:
- All FRC merging experiments result in merger. Every two-FRC experiment (MSNW IPA, TAE C-2, FAT-CM, KTX) results in collisional merging — the two FRCs combine into a single structure. There is no mechanism for stable, non-merging, long-range coupling between independent macroscopic FRCs.
- Montgomery's MDR theory describes single-system relaxation, not multi-body coordination. The Minimum Dissipation Rate theory (Montgomery & Phillips, Phys. Rev. A 38, 2953, 1988) applies to a single plasma system relaxing to a minimum-energy state, not to multiple independent systems coordinating at distance.
- Four-Wave Mixing (FWM) as a synchronizer is unsupported. While FWM in plasma is real (laser-driven nonlinear optics) and can synchronize polariton condensates (nm-scale, optical frequencies), applying FWM to macroscopic FRCs (cm-to-m scale, MHD dynamics) involves a major regime mismatch. No analysis or experiment supports FWM-mediated synchronization of macroscopic plasma structures.
- PLX-BETHE synchronizes 36 jets, but they merge. The closest analog to multi-plasmoid coordination (PLX-BETHE, 36 plasma jets) is fundamentally different — the jets merge into a single liner, not three independent coordinated structures.
- Rad-hard SoC requirements are unmet. The "Trivergence" concept's control requirements (0.5–2.0 TFLOPS, under 20 μs latency) are not met by any rad-hard hardware. The BAE RAD510 delivers ~1,386 MIPS — three orders of magnitude short. Microsecond-latency plasma control is demonstrated on commercial FPGAs (KTX: under 50 μs), not rad-hard SoCs.
8.5 The MH370 Speculation
The March 8, 2014 disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 has been linked to plasma orb weapons technology through leaked military surveillance footage showing three luminous orbs in coordinated triangular formation around a Boeing 777. This material must be assessed with extreme caution.
What is known:
- The footage was uploaded in May–June 2014 by an anonymous account ("RegicideAnon")
- Two videos exist: a satellite/WAMI version and a thermal/FLIR version
- France 24 and Lead Stories have identified the footage as likely VFX creation
- 4ORBS has argued for authenticity based on 14 technical features
- No official source has authenticated the footage
- The three-orb formation is consistent with the "Trivergence" concept — which is itself unsupported (Section 8.4)
Version 1 of this paper presented the MH370 analysis with speculative caveats but embedded it in a broader narrative that may have overstated its significance. This revision explicitly separates the MH370 speculation from the core findings and presents it as an unverified claim that cannot be confirmed or denied on the basis of open-source evidence.
8.6 The Lake Huron Object — Not a Plasma Orb
For completeness, the February 12, 2023 Lake Huron shootdown object should be noted. The object was described as an "octagonal structure with strings hanging off" — not an orb or plasma phenomenon. The first AIM-9X missile missed; the second hit. Debris was recovered in November 2024 despite initial reports of "no debris." This object is not a plasma orb and should not be confused with the plasma orb assessment.
8.7 Assessment
- Plausible effects (Plausible physics): Thermal ablation, EMP/HPM upset/burnout, induced voltage/arcs, shock waves, composite delamination, aerodynamic disruption, possible engine flameout.
- Disintegration (Unsupported): Literal disintegration of aircraft/missiles is not supported by documented physics.
- Three-body coordination (Unsupported): No experimental or theoretical support for stable, non-merging, three-body FRC formation. FWM synchronization of macroscopic FRCs is unsupported. Rad-hard SoC requirements are unmet.
- MH370 (Unverified speculation): Contested authenticity. Cannot be independently verified. Does not affect core findings.
- Spacetime manipulation (Unsupported): Davis identified >109 Tesla fields as necessary for measurable spacetime distortion. Nuclear explosive magnetic induction (Winterberg) could theoretically achieve this, but no experimental validation exists.
